I’ve written a lot of posts on achieving personal goals, including my monthly personal progress updates which chronicles my progress with each of the goals I set in January. But whilst these posts may be useful, entertaining and (hopefully) inspiring, you might still be struggling with actually achieving personal goals.

Resolutions and good intentions aside, we all know that it can be difficult to not just set goals, but to actually work consistently to finally see the outcome we’ve been striving for. On the surface we often say that we haven’t got enough time or money to be able to work on our goals, but sometimes it’s not about time or money, sometimes our lack of action runs much deeper.

Taking a few easy steps to improve your life has got to be worth the effort!  So today, I’ve got 9 tips that, if put into action will improve your life not just in the short term, but, more importantly in the long term!  There’s nothing to lose here, so let’s get straight to it!

Stop Being Lazy!

Did I really just say that?! Afraid so! But let me justify it.

Being lazy doesn’t have to mean that you zone out on the couch all day, watching tv and eating rubbish (although it could mean that!). But what I’m getting at is our tendency to avoid doing the difficult things. The things that bear little fruit in the short term, but will pay-off big time in the future.

They can be quick and easy (eat your fruit and veggies) or time-consuming and sometimes challenging (visit your elderly relatives and really engage with them).

You Need A Budget

Back in April, I wrote a post called How to Set Up a Basic Budget. That post has been very popular (thank you 🙂 ), so I thought today I’d take it one step further and share with you the budgeting tool I use on a daily basis to manage my personal finances.

I highly recommend this tool! It’s made a huge difference to how I manage my day-to-day finances and has taken away a lot of the stress around budgeting.

Spookily 😉 , the tool is called ‘You Need A Budget’ or YNAB for short. I came across it around last August and signed up in September, when I returned from my holiday. Being a complete numbers nerd I’d been researching the tool while on holidays, so I was eager to get to work on it when I returned home!

Here’s my personal goals progress update for June 2017! You can check out my detailed list of 2017 Goals here. Writing publicly about my progress is one of the most effective methods of accountability I’ve found. Consequently, I’m aiming to produce a monthly update right through 2017.

Writing up my personal goals progress report is an important part of keeping me on track and accountable. It’s also a really useful method to review what is and isn’t working. Sometimes that will mean that some goals will change or be removed altogether. But the great thing is that these are my goals, so I can change them as often as I like! If you choose to write up or already have some personal goals then doing a regular review and write up is a great way to stay on track!
