So I was pondering what to write about this week and thought that maybe I should let you know a little bit more about me! The idea of coming up with 10 things seemed like a good place to start and I thought it would be a bit of fun to include a red herring in the list too to see if anyone can guess which one I’ve made up! Answers in the comments please!
Of course some of you know me quite well anyway, and others don’t really know me other than through my blog. This makes choosing the list quite difficult, but here we go anyway!
- I’ve crowd surfed (but just once!). This happened on a holiday to France. It wasn’t your usual idea of crowd surfing, but just enough for me. I jumped into a line of waiting French men who then passed me over their heads and down the line, all the while swaying to the blaring music! Down the line I was man-handled until reaching the end of the line where I was set down on my feet. A girl’s dream comes true!
- I’m petrified of cows! This is a weird one and (I think) stems from a long-ingrained conversation with an uncle who scared me into believing that if you entered a field of cows they would chase you until you were trampled! I’m not especially aware of any statistics which prove that there is an epidemic of people meeting their death due to cow trampling, but knowing this rationally has done nothing to eradicate my irrational childhood fear!
- I’m a closet Trekkie! I love Star Trek and have watched each series, film and generation that has graced our screens…innumerable times! I wouldn’t go as far as to say that I can speak Klingon or that I could name every character that’s ever entered the Trekkie world, but, I love being drawn into the futuristic science fantasy of what is waiting for us in the future!
- I love the idea of being organised, but hate being restricted! I struggle with this personality conflict almost on a daily basis. I think it might be something to do with wanting the peace of mind that comes with knowing that everything is in its place and will be easy to find when needed versus having a strict list of ‘to-dos’, which will include filing. It could also be due to the fact that I definitely suffer from ‘shiny object syndrome’ and if something new comes my way, I don’t want to be contained by the things I ‘should’ be doing!
- My favourite food is mushrooms. I never get tired of eating mushrooms! There are so many types to choose from, and I particularly like oyster mushrooms. Plus, there are so many ways to use them. I enjoy them with meat, chicken, and fish, and on pizzas. They also have the added benefit of being a healthy choice for vitamins and minerals.
- I once dropped a bowl of scalding soup into a customer’s lap! Oh, the embarrassment! I was helping out at charity do and was serving a soup starter. There were two bowls of soup on my tray and as I leaned over to serve the first bowl to the lady, the second bowl gently slid off the edge of my tray into her waiting husband’s lap! Ouch!
- I have an ambition to go into space! This could be the Star Trek effect, but for as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to go into space. At one time this was a complete pipe-dream, but who knows, maybe it will be fulfilled at some time in the not-too-distant future.
- My favourite colour is blue. For this blog I checked out a few meanings online and this one just about sums up what blue means to me: Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Taken from http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html
- I often feel like I’m a late starter! If I sit quietly and think about the course my life has taken, I often feel that I’ve been late to get going on things, given my age at the time I took a certain course of action. Maybe this is steeped in the unhealthy thought process of comparing myself to others (for example, A has already reached the height of her career, why haven’t I? or B has already got children/grandchildren, why haven’t I?) In other words, I’m wondering what I’m missing out on. On the other hand, I often think to myself ‘I’m not old enough to be this age!’, so maybe it’s a maturity thing…who knows!
10. I love the changing of the seasons. Living in the UK, this could just be because I’m familiar with the changing seasons or maybe it’s more to do with the need to see, feel and experience change (aka, shiny object syndrome)! I’m not really sure what the answer is to this, but whatever the reason, I welcome the arrival of each new season and the changed opportunities that it will offer. From summer beaches to autumn leaves, fresh green growth in the spring and the snows of winter, they are all beautiful to me.
So there you have it – now which one do you think isn’t true? I’d love to hear your thoughts on my list and please add something about yourself that not many people know about!

I vote that mushrooms are not your favorite food since I’m pretty sure they aren’t vitamin and mineral laden.
Fun list!
