My New Goals for 2022 (Finally!)
I’m late in the year deciding what my goals are going to be. This is a frustrating place to find myself that has been brought about by waning confidence because of the global pandemic affecting my motivation to set goals.
Lacking Confidence To Set New Goals
For the last two years even though I’ve wanted to set goals I just didn’t have the certainty that I would be able to carry it through. That I’d be able to make the goals a reality or even be able to achieve anything.
I think a lot of people have been affected like this. At the beginning of the year we just didn’t know how life was going to pan out so it was kind of like “well what’s the point in setting them in the first place?”
But as time has rolled on I’ve become more and more frustrated about my lack of direction, and not being to be able to make any real difference or improvements in my life.
In fact, from March 2020 until fairly recently I’ve just felt like my life has gone backwards. When I think back to the wins I made from 2015 onwards but now looking back I can see that I’ve lost some of that ground. I now need to make back that lost ground and more.
Frankly I’ve been bored. Bored with my life, bored with having nothing to look forward to, and bored with wanting to start things but not having the confidence to do it.
Something Needed To Change
But as we hit the halfway mark of 2022 I knew something needed to change. I knew I needed to think about what I wanted for the future, the things I wanted to achieve and the things I want to have, be and do.
And now (finally) it’s done! It’s the end of July and I’ve finally got my goals together for 2022/23!
So read on to find out the goals I’ve set for 2022 and into the early part of 2023.
My New Goals for 2022/23
Some of these goals are going to take more than the five months that are left of 2022, so this is now a 22/23 list of goals! But it’s good to know that I’ve already got some plans set out for 2023, although I’m sure I’ll review my current goals when we get to the New Year.
So, let’s get to it, here are the goals I’ve set for the next 12 months with a brief explanation of what achievement of that goal would look like for me.
Fun and Adventure
To get out and about, exploring, enjoying nature and trying new activities and experiences and having more fun. To widen my horizons and become more of who I want to be/am.
Achieve Your Best Life
To create a business through AYBL that will support me and my family financially whilst allowing me to use my creativity to live the life I want.
Car
To up level my car to a car that allows for it to be a “moving university”
Clothes
To update my wardrobe with new clothes, shoes, bags etc that fit with the new image of the me I’m becoming
Creativity
To develop and expand my creativity by using tools such as the TAW process (and others that become apparent to me over time) so that I can grow and develop creatively.
Emotions
To work on myself to develop inner peace and acceptance so that I experience happiness, inner and outer calm and serenity and acceptance of what is whilst working to improve and become more fulfilled.
Finances
To double my income within the next 12 months.
Health & Fitness
To reach my goal weight (10st/140lbs), to be supple and strong with greater stamina. To enjoy physical activities without feeling breathless or overtired. To be able to sleep well and peacefully.
Home
To have a clean, tidy and decluttered home, with beautiful and functional furniture. To have a beautiful garden, well-tended with flowers and shrubs, with stylish and functional furniture.
Me-Time
To have time to myself to do the things that I enjoy or find relaxing, including (but not limited to), travelling, reading, knitting, walking, crochet, journalling, listening to podcasts and audio books etc.
Pets
To have suitable indoor and outdoor accommodation for all the pets.
Productivity
To be motivated and self-disciplined to use the tools I have learned (and have yet to learn) to stay focused, increase my outputs and deliveries. To have a feeling of accomplishment each and every day.
So there they are, but they deserve a little more explanation on how I reached the point of finally getting them written up.
The Breakthrough
As I’ve already mentioned, I’ve really struggled this year to be able to articulate my goals. I know part of this was because of a feeling that I wouldn’t be able to achieve them, due to the circumstances we’ve all been living under for the last few years.
That fear of failure took me into a dark place where I wasn’t able to motivate myself to strive for something bigger. It wasn’t a good place to be.
But finally, I had a breakthrough.
Earlier this year I read a book called Scripting The Life You Want by Royce Christyn. The author (who is an actor) talks about how he has used daily scripting to orchestrate things to come into his life – things that he would not have believed could happen, but did.
The book is practical in nature, and Royce advises you to start a daily ‘wants’ list. This, simply, is a list of things that you want in your life. The author tells you to write out your wants every morning (it takes minutes) and to be honest with yourself, no one else is meant to read your list of wants.
How I Made It Work For Me
Well I’ve been diligently writing my Wants List since the beginning of 2022 and it suddenly occurred to me that these lists are my goals!
So I took one month’s worth of wants and collated them into one big list. I then sorted them into themes and finally whittled them down into a short list of goals – which is what you see above.
It was interesting to me to see that as well as the usual material items and experiences that I wanted to have, it was clear that I needed to do some work on me too. I think that’s a first for my list of annual goals and reflects how using the ‘wants list’ creates a greater depth of self-awareness.
Next Steps
My next steps will involve writing out the tasks that will help these goals come to life and then taking action on them. Right now, I don’t have all the answers, but am confident that as time rolls on I will learn more and will be able to work out what next steps I’ll need to take.
I finally feel enthused by having a direction, something that has been missing for far too long and I’m looking forward to making a difference in my life over the next 12 months.
