We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.
– Jim Rohn
Getting from there to here
This quote from Jim Rohn, along with the story about the Girl Scout selling cookies plays an important part in the ‘About Me’ story and has had a profound effect on my outlook on life. Right up until the time I discovered Mr Rohn, even though I knew something needed to change, it just hadn’t occurred to me that the ‘something’ was me!
Instead I’d been looking around and blaming others and/or circumstances that were out of my control for any unhappiness I felt or any misfortune that befell me. And whilst I might not have had the “it’s not my fault!” attitude completely(!) I was often mystified at my lack of success or I would look around for someone else to take responsibity for the outcomes I saw in my life – the economy, the surly shop assistant or the bad weather. Unfortunately, if I couldn’t see myself as the responsible one then how was I ever going to make things better?!
But Jim Rohn woke me up to myself and my infinite power and ability to make things the way I wanted them to be. I spent months thereafter researching and listening to Jim Rohn videos. By that time, I realised that whilst I was inspired by JR’s philosophy and works, I was also desperate for change.
The first steps…
Fast forward to March 2013 and a leap of faith which resulted in me setting up Achieve Your Best Life.com after years of searching for my passion in life. Like many people, I had been stumbling around, trying to find out what I really wanted to do with my life. I had been lucky with my early choice of career, and, for the most part, had been very happy. I trained, qualified and then worked as an accountant for 20+ years, but somehow, over the last few years, accountancy had begun to lose its shine.
I no longer woke up each morning with new ideas popping into my head about all the things I was going to accomplish that day and instead, like many, I turned into one of those people who feels like it’s a daily trudge into work, gets through the day and then returns home at the end of the day tired and ready to just zone out. Life had become boring and that age old mantra started playing through my head…there’s got to be more to life than this…
…and Eureka!
So I started looking for that ‘thing’ that was missing and after trying my hand at a few different options (you can read about my earlier adventures in this blog post: Finding My Passion!) whilst still working my day job, I finally realised that what I loved to do most was work with people, and, beyond that, help people who have become stuck in some area of their lives to successfully get past their pinch point.
That realisation was the catalyst for much activity which finally resulted in this website along with my Facebook and Twitter pages. I have also since written an eBook ‘Ignite Your Motivation’ which is available for Kindle via Amazon.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of my family and friends. As with any new venture, it can be quite scary to step out of your (so called) comfort zone, and it was no different for me. Whilst I’d always enjoyed writing, until this blog existed, I’d never had the courage to make my writing public. But, encouraged by my family and then enthused by the positive reaction from friends, this blog has grown and now has over 100 posts (with lots more to come)!
Creating this website, my book, Facebook and Twitter presence has put a spring back in my step! The day job is still a feature of my life, but I no longer feel the need to ‘zone out’ at the end of the work day. Instead my evenings and weekends are occupied with creative ideas and productivity. I wake up every day with new ideas and am raring to get going! Now my only issue is finding the time to get everything done, but that’s a good problem to have 🙂
So now it’s your turn!
Don’t let fear hold you back. Your time is now; tomorrow is just a diversion tactic to stop you stepping out of your “uncomfortable” zone!
I invite you to join me on the journey to greater fulfilment and wild success!
