My husband and I were chatting the other day and he mentioned that 2022 has been the year without a Wow! How sad is that? We both agreed that there have been a few positive changes and experiences, but had to admit that the wows were sparse.

So with that in mind, I’ve tried to re-think the year in terms of lessons learned, but you will find the positive changes and experiences are also documented here, not only for completeness but also to remind ourselves that even when things seem tough, boring or unremarkable there are usually a few positives in the mix too.

Have you ever sat down, pen in hand, blank sheet of paper in front of you with the intention of coming up with some goals for yourself only to find your mind goes blank?

Or, have lots of ideas come to you, but when you wrote them down, you just didn’t feel any real enthusiasm for them, or worse they felt so out of reach that you immediately rejected them as impossible?

My New Goals for 2022 (Finally!)

I’m late in the year deciding what my goals are going to be. This is a frustrating place to find myself that has been brought about by waning confidence because of the global pandemic affecting my motivation to set goals.

Lacking Confidence To Set New Goals

For the last two years even though I’ve wanted to set goals I just didn’t have the certainty that I would be able to carry it through. That I’d be able to make the goals a reality or even be able to achieve anything.

I think a lot of people have been affected like this. At the beginning of the year we just didn’t know how life was going to pan out so it was kind of like “well what’s the point in setting them in the first place?”

I nearly always start my days by taking the time to write out a plan for the things I want to get done that day. And although the process can take me anything from 15 – 30 minutes, I find it’s time well spent to keep me organised and on track.

This is in stunning contrast to the days when I just used to arrive at my desk and deal with the things that “seemed” the most important, were the quickest or the easiest tasks.

These days my list is carefully thought out and planned and covers all aspects of my life to attempt to not only keep some semblance of being organised, but also allows me to move forward on things that are important but not necessarily urgent.

“(the situation of being faced with) something that needs great mental or physical effort in order to be done successfully and therefore tests a person’s ability.”

Or put in much plainer terms it’s simply a difficult job!
